Woodside Farm Creamery Celebrates
National Ice Cream Day ~ 2004

Folks arrived early to sign up for the ice cream eating contest.

First up were the 4 to 6 year olds. 5-ounces of ice cream doesn't appear to be much until you try and eat it quickly!

In the end the winners were;
1st ~ Ean Bottomley (left)
2nd ~ Joy Liu (right)
3rd ~ Andrew Sung (center)

A larger group gathered to try their skills in the 7 to 11 age group. They wasted no time scooping diving into their 5-ounce cups of vanilla. We saw the "shovel it in" method demonstrated as well as the "take big shovel-full" technique.

Taking the top three honors were;
1st ~ Jaime Sepelyak (right)
2nd ~ Chris Sepelyak (left)
3rd ~ Edward Bottomley (center)

For the 12 to 15 age group the ice cream quantity now increased to a pint! These folks found out that a pint doesn't look like much until you get two-thirds of the way down in the container and still have more to go!

Contest winners were;
1st ~ Jack Qiu (right)
2nd ~ Amy Sung (left)
3rd ~ Anton Wainright (center)

The 16 and over group brought the heavy hitters to the table. In their zeal to win several broke their plastic spoons and had to have a back-up. Of course this group also seemed to have an abundance of ice cream headaches after the event from swallowing super-large portions!

The champions were;
1st ~ Steve Dargitz (right)
2nd ~ Ed DeGuzman (center)
3rd ~ Tyler Shellem (left)

Pictured above are Jim and Janet Mitchell (center), owners of Woodside Farm Creamery. Delaware Senator Dave Sokola (right) and Robert Baker, President of the Delaware Farm Bureau, served as officials for the ice cream eating event. In addition to their ribbons, winners of each contest received a quantity of Woodside Farm Tokens and a Woodside Farm Creamery shirt as prizes. All participants received Woodside Farm Creamery tokens in recognition of their participation in the ice cream eating event.
